
This year’s Australian Engineering Week will include insightful tours and talks to highlight the way engineering shapes our everyday lives. Read this article to find out more about Australian Engineering Week events for 2014.
A series of new events and activities in will be held major cities across the nation from 4-10 August as part of Australian Engineering Week 2014.
Australian Engineering Week aims to educate people of all ages about engineering and illustrate the important role engineering plays in everyday life. Each year, members of the public are invited to participate in competitions, talks and social evenings that focus on a variety of areas within the engineering discipline.
As part of the 2014 events, Engineers Australia have organised tours of Sydney’s iconic structures, including the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Tunnel.
General Manager of Engineers Australia Sydney Division, Steve Finlay, said that people from all walks of life are encouraged to get involved in the nation-wide celebration.
“The Australian Engineering Week Sydney site tours offer an unprecedented opportunity for our community to see first-hand just how integral engineers are to the landmarks of Sydney that are so important to us all,” he said.
Engineering entrepreneur and Feelancer.com founder Matt Barrie will speak at the Sydney launch event, offering insight to business development.
Other additions to the program include a presentation of Canberra’s Majura Parkway Project, a Spaghetti Bridge Competition in Brisbane and a behind-the-scenes site tour of the Adelaide Convention Centre redevelopment.
Launceston will also be hosting an ‘Engineering Selfie Challenge’, which will feature a list of riddles leading participants to engineering landmarks across the city. A prize will be awarded to the first person to take a ‘selfie’ at each of the correctly-identified sites.
Other popular 2013 events will return this year, including the Engineering Games and the Trivia Night hosted by Engineers Without Borders.
The 2014 program will also feature a wide range panel discussions, career information evenings and forums.
